I needed shorter Christmas light strands because I wanted to put lighted balls in our front yard tree this year, but I didn't want a bunch of cords all over the yard. After hours of research and reviews, I decided to try these because they were super cheap, and I'm glad that I did! My greatest fear was that the balls would go out 3 days after I put them up, or that they wouldn't stand up to chicago weather. So happy that they made it! This year was particularly crazy weather and these lights stood up to rain, tornado winds, ice, and snow, in a 4 week span. However, I did put the battery box in a sandwich bag and taped the bag (see pic). I wanted to give them a fighting chance in our unpredictable weather. They shined super bright for about 10 days and then went to about half their brightness after that (see pics). The dimness didn't bother me, the balls were too high up to change the batteries at will. If dimness really bothers you (something that happens with battery powered lights) you'll have to change the batteries every two weeks. I will say, that strands that were on a flickering setting stayed brighter for about a week longer than the strands that were steady on. The biggest takeaway is that these are great outdoor lights that can withstand the weather. Also, don't forget to take into consideration that each strand takes 3 AA batteries. Would buy again.
