I have a $2,000.00 ECM Giotto Espresso/Cappucino machine that I love, but it takes about 10 minutes to warm up and the process for making the coffee and cleaning the machine is a bit of an ordeal. This little machine takes 30 seconds to warm up, makes wonderful espresso, and is breeze to clean. (I fill the cup with water and preheat it in the microwave for 25 seconds.) The end product is excellent. The decaf capsules produce coffee that isn't at all bitter. Quick, easy and the coffee is great.
The expresso and coffee are close to perfect for a home machine. But within a week the expresso cup holder tray broke on a tiny piece on left side where metal bar fits into swivel. I retuned it to Bed Bath Beyond and a new one is coming back to me now. The Illy coffee capsules are delicious. I have a red one. Cute. If the tray brakes again I’ll have to return it for refund. I’m hoping that will not happen. I hope it is a fluke. I’ve been using Illy coffee since the late 1970’s. To Illy people who reads this please respond.

Illy coffee is the best. The espresso pods don't work well in the machine but the coffee pods are great.

I got this as a Christmas gift from my son. I have a Nespresso but I always enjoy Illy in restaurants so he gave me this. NOT happy , the creme is not even close to my other machine but the flavor is better. After just a little bit after a year the machine stop working properly even with the cleaning. Cheap product

Overflow valve located in upper part of water reservoir sometimes allows water to flow inbetween the machine and the water reservoir causing the machine to leak out at the bottom edge.

I have been so grateful to have this little machine in my home. I love espresso, and the idea of having one gets me out of bed in the morning. It's so simple to use, my 9-year old makes me coffee! Easy to program different volumes, easy to reset, and it's so compact and adorable. It's easy to take apart to remove the capsules and to clean. The espresso is excellent. I haven't used my french press to make coffee since I've bought this machine. It makes the usual rumble so make sure to set it up on a sturdy countertop. I had used a different brand of espresso machine while staying at a friend's house, but think the illy is much better designed and produces a better quality espresso. This machine brings me a feeling of warm happiness every day.

The capsules are very expensive and out of stock in the few stores that carry them. Many are out of stock on the Illy website as well. It took forever to get my order of capsules from Illy. Nespresso sends their capsules right away! They sometimes even arrive the next day after ordering them. The additional absurd thing is that Illy has the nerve to charge $15 for a recycling kit. Nespresso sends you a prepaid plastic recycling bag for free. You just ask for one. Illy is NOT interested in recycling, they just found a way to make more money. The coffee itself tastes OK. Not amazing. And the machine leaks. Not worth it at all. This is an inferior product from a very disappointing company. Not worth it at all. Get a Nespresso.
The machine is beautifully designed but poorly engineered and cheaply made. The entire thing is made of a very cheap grade of plastic in which the injection moulding lines are visible. The spiral shelf is a thin sheet of plastic that is cantilevered with all the weight held on by a 2mm thick plastic sliver of plastic. It seems even without placing a cup on it, the tolerance is so poor that the mere presence of the metal pin attaching the shelf to the instrument body was enough to cause it to spontaneously fracture. I’d have to say it was spontaneous because it arrived double packed and in good condition with no evidence of shipping induced damage. This is a perfect example of beautiful design with no engineering forethought whatsoever. There are so many ways this obvious problem could have been avoided and it’s sad to see such a beautiful modern design with such poor implementation so as to become useless. I waited quite some time and now I’ve asked to return it which is a real disappointment.
