Before using the glass bowl, be sure to check the Beater to Bowl clearance! Some reviews state that their bowl cracked after a few uses. Most likely this is from the beater hitting the bowl. The glass is thicker than the Steel bowl. Check each of your beaters. If you see that some of the coating has chipped off the beater, then it most likely been striking the bowl. The adjustment is easy to do.
I have had the KitchenAid mixer with a glass bowl for several years. While replacing the bowl last week I BARELY (cannot stress that word enough) tapped the side of the bowl on the attachment rod and a giant chunk of glass just broke off. I have since read that others have even been injured and these bowls shattering mid-mix! Be CAREFUL and I advise going with a metal bowl instead. The mixer itself works perfectly well, that I will say. But I would not advise getting one with a glass bowl. So disappointed but glad I was not injured. KitchenAid has, so far, just told me to purchase a new bowl as my mixer is outside the 1 year warranty.

I purchased this bowl for my wife last Christmas and it has been a total waste of money! The bowl will not attach to the stand and just spins when used! Not good. It looks like the base has glass "wedges" that are supposed to jam under the catches in the base, but the wedges are too small to work properly. I have contacted Kitchenaid several times but with no resolution. Kitchenaid sent a plastic ring they thought would work, but nope! It is too small for the bowl! This is very poorly designed and crafted! Do not buy!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love this bowl. So satisfying watching the ingredients in a glass bowl

So today my bowl shattered! The bowl was sitting in the mixer and somehow it unscrewed itself from the plastic threaded holder and it shattered while the plastic holder stayed in the mixer. Glass everywhere. DO NOT BUY!!!!! I'm so disappointed in Kitchenaid - this was NOT a cheap investment! I'm moving to another brand. This is ridiculous.

In my opinion this item is a must have!! It’s so beneficial to be able to see if the mixing bowel needs scraping in a simple glance. It’s made of heavy duty thick glass and fits our Artisan mixer Beautifully!!! Highly recommended!!!!

I regret purchasing a glass mixing bowl twice for my kitchen aid. I had a two break in one year. Regret not going for metal bowel, seems like a frequent and dangerous problem based on the reviews.

My first glass bowl cracked shortly after purchase. Eventually I ordered a second bowl and that bowl shattered within 3 months of purchase. I had my 6 month old in my arms and was standing right by the mixer when it shattered. Thankfully, my son was unharmed, however I did get glass stuck in my hand. Kitchenaid offered me a replacement bowl, which I declined. This combined with lead covered beaters will have my purchasing non kitchen aid items in the future. Kitchen aid very obviously only cares about profits.

I purchased this bowl to complement the steel one that came with my mixer. It isn't shown or mentioned in the product description, but it has a threaded bottom that is meant to screw into a plastic ring adaptor which is meant to hold it snugly in the mixer. My bowl is apparently defective because no matter how carefully I try to screw the adaptor onto the bowl, or the bowl onto the adaptor, it very easily pops right out again, and thus it doesn't sit securely in the mixer. It's okay for mixing something easy like whipping cream but for anything at all heavy that might move the bowl, it's just not safe. I've successfully used it maybe twice. It's a shame as it's a big, useful bowl otherwise. heavy, but you'd expect that for glass. I haven't experienced any breaking or crackign problems, but mostly because I just don't use it - if your bowl base suddenly springs out of its holder and the bowl turns, it's very likely to break against the mixer. I think it's kind of deceptive that the product description does not indicate that an adapter ring is used to hold it in place, because now I don' tknow whether I can safely buy one of the other, ceramic bowls without facing the same issue. There's no way to know what bowls will fit properly if it doesn't say in the description if the adapter is needed or not.
