The side was so important to me. I wanted a large cooking surface that wouldn’t take up too much space on the stove. This is a big pan with a 14”outside diameter (not including the handles) but the flat inside diameter cooking surface is a full 13”. It is reasonably priced, works great and the best part is you can go see it before you buy it at Bed Bath and Beyond!
This cast iron skillet stared to pealing off. I don’t know what it is. Is it a paint? I have a smaller cast iron skillet of a different brand and it never had such an issue. This one had some surface coating that now is pealing off.

The black residue on your pan is not harmful and possible sources for the black residue are below. With proper cooking techniques, cleaning, and seasoning you will reduce the build-up of this carbon residue and have no more black coming off your pan affecting your cooking. I have not used it just yet> But when I do I will be back if I have anything negative to say... otherwise it should perform as expected... the cast Iron is not real thick considering my older cast Iron pans... The way of the world in corporate savings is to cheapen the products we by by conserving on materials and quality ingredients aka... steel or electronics etc.
I have had numerous cast iron pans and they never peel. I can see a grey color underneath. It is not carbon or food residue. Little pieces flake off. Of course it’s past 90 days so I can’t return it. I’d rather pay a little more and not eat paint. Very disappointing.
This is my 2nd purchase of this pan…it’s my go to pan for everything I cook…it’s perfect for small or large portions. This pan sits on my stove 24/7
Love this pan. It is a perfect size for a casserole for 6+ people and for panfrying steaks, etc. It is heavy (as expected) and I have to remember to rub with oil to prevent rust.
Excellent and even heat retention, great factory seasoning allows for easy nonstick cooking surface. Slip it in the oven, take it to the grill and finish your meal stove top, this pan is amazing! I love this cast iron skillet! It is great for baking Mac and cheese.
I just purchased this product maybe a week ago, I noticed immediately it looked different than my other cast iron pans… It was jet black from the start almost feeling like it had a coating on it. I washed it and seasoned it the way I do all my other cast iron pans and have done for the last 20 years and when I got it out of the oven it had turned to this thick sticky texture like syrup or a glue. I have not yet use this pan to cook with or anything because I’m nervous about what this coating is. I know it says the pan is pre-seasoned, but it is not pre-seasoned with typical oil there is a strange coating on it and I don’t know what chemicals it could have in it but after seeing other reviews about it peeling off it makes me think it’s some kind of paint. I have never experienced a cast iron having this texture. I specifically bought these pans to avoid toxic chemicals found in a lot of other pans and I’m very disappointed to see that something strange is painted or coated on top of this pan.
