I got this garlic keeper for myself because it was something that I never thought about much. I have found that it fit very well on the bottom of the microwave cart with my recipe boxes and my cutting board. The best thing I have found is that I don’t have all the little pieces of the garlic skin all over the place; they stay contained in the container. It also would make a nice gift for anyone on your list as a really useful item because it is simple and understated and would fit into anyone’s kitchen.
On the website, this is advertised as ceramic. The dish has a label that states that it is in fact porcelain. Porcelain is often made with bone ash in China, the country in which this was made. After an extended web search to learn more about Chinese porcelain, I learned that the weight of the object as it is heavier indicates that it is unlikely to have bone ash content. The bright white of the porcelain is not opalescent and is likely enhanced by coloring. I did not return it because it is highly unlikely that it has bone ash involved. It is annoying to need to go through the additional step of needing to research such things. If it had been advertised as porcelain instead of ceramic online, I would not have purchased it.

The bottom of the bowl is so smooth you cant grind anything, it just slides around, while the height of the bowl is awkwardly tall, making wrist movements uncomfortable. Will be returning it immediately.
