Still experimenting, but happy with purchase. BRCHCK ·

Weighed the pros and cons between 3 SCAA-certified drip coffee makers (OXO Barista Brain, Bonvita BV1900, Behmor Brazen Plus) and ultimately chose this one. Aesthetically the OXO looks terrific ... which shouldn't be the reason you choose a coffee maker, but it certainly doesn't hurt. Overall I was looking for something simple - which ruled out the Brazen Plus - that produced a great cup of coffee. I'm sure that I would have been happy with the Bonvita, but the basket / carafe combo bugged me, and in general there was a fair amount of negative criticism about the carafe's ability to keep coffee hot for an extended period of time. I've had the OXO for about 3 weeks and I'm still playing around with the water-to-coffee ratios, as well as the coarseness of the grinds, but overall it makes a tasty cup. I've seen a couple people remark that the control button is fiddly and not that intuitive, but I couldn't disagree more. The Barista Brain's brew time isn't the fastest, but it's adequate. The carafe keeps the coffee hot for an extended period, though I haven't timed it and I generally make 3-4 cups (5 oz) at a time, which I can easily finish off in under an hour. Some have commented about leakage when removing the carafe from under the basket, but I haven't experienced that. As for the negatives, the reservoir clouds up with condensed water after brewing, but opening the lid remedies that issue. There was a slightly weird smell in the plastic tank when I first got the OXO but it seems to have gone away. Also, the mixing tube inside the carafe smells like a rubber trash fire. I've washed it several times and the odor has weakened, but it's still there. However, I don't think it affects the coffee ... but again, my coffee doesn't sit in that pot for very long, so who knows what would happen if I made 9 cups and let it sit around for a couple hours. Also, $200 is a bit steep for a drip coffee maker, but I guess price is subjective. It obviously wasn't enough to keep my from purchasing it. At the end of the day, I'm happy that I went with the OXO Barista Brain and I would recommend it to others. It's a simple, attractive machine that does what it's supposed to do, which is to produce a hot, tasty cup of coffee. I'm giving it 4 stars, but I'm a tough grader and I never give anything 5 stars. 5 stars implies that the item is perfect, which is almost never the case with appliances.

Bitter disappointment Demo ·

My wife and I literally spat out the first sip of coffee it made. The coffee was very bitter and had some sort of unpleasant, chemical after-taste as well. For the record, I followed the directions to a tee. I'm kind of a fanatic when it comes to cleanliness and following directions. I thoroughly washed all the parts in warm soapy water and rinsed them 3 or 4 times before the first use. I ran a full reservoir of plain, cold water through the machine before using it the first time. This machine does take quite a while to brew coffee as the machine pauses every minute or so to let the grounds soak in the hot water, then it continues. Maybe it keeps the coffee grounds in contact with the hot water for too long of a time period, causing the bitter brew? But what about the chemical after-taste? That's coming from the silicone components in the heated water path. Put your nose up close to those silicone components, and you can smell a strong odor. It's so strong, it almost puts a taste in your mouth just from smelling it. I brewed another batch. I used less coffee grounds this time as well, and I also didn't use the silicone carafe tube. The coffee tasted less bitter, and although the chemical after-taste was reduced, it was still there. I removed all the other silicone tubes in the hot water path (some come off easily with no tools, others need a couple of screws removed). I washed all of them in warm soapy water, and rinsed them several times. Then I put four full reservoirs of cold water through the brew process with no filter or coffee grounds in the machine. After the fourth reservoir, I tasted the plain hot water that was in the carafe. It still had a noticeable after-taste. It's kind of like the after-taste you get from drinking water out of a garden hose. Not the same flavor, but the same level of after-taste.

coffee maker was delivered used Makaila ·

I was really excited to give this as a gift, but when opening the package my partner found it stained with coffee, the carafe burnt on the bottom, a mysterious white powder/ dried liquid throughout the machine, and with scratches/ scuffs. The box itself looked like it had been opened and the package containing the measuring spoon had been cut open. It was clearly used by someone before it arrived to us.

I usually love Oxo products so I was expecting to find the quality and ease of use to be excellent. Unfortunately the weird design choices (if the carafe lid isn't screwed on right the coffee spills out) put me off initially. But then it just broke after 9 months and Oxo wouldn't send us a new one until we had sent the old one back and paid $80 in shipping to do so. Really upsetting and I recommend finding a different coffee maker.

Pause and Pour Nonnie ·

The booklet says you can pull the carafe out during brewing to pour a cup of coffee and brewing will stop. Well, I did this and it did not stop. It made a mess all over the counter. Not happy.

I heard great things about their coffee pot. It makes a good cup of coffee, however, the carafe does not keep it hot. Within 15 minutes or so, the coffee is luke warm.

Hard to Clean LM ·

This has made our lives easier in some ways and harder in other ways. In order to prevent mold and mildew one should clean it daily and allow it to dry, however it is quite difficult to reach into the water reservoir and properly clean in. It requires a bottle brush cleaner with a dry towel at the end to reach the crevasses and the water read our does t detach to make it easier. If you’re easily freaked out by mold this takes a lot of time out of your evening or morning. Otherwise it’s a great machine

only lasted one year Michael ·

When it worked it made pretty good coffee. I bought this unit on sale July 2, 2020. As of today July 4, 2021 this unit will no longer work. Will not pump the water through the coffee maker. Tried trouble shooting through the manual. I'm thankful I didn't get rid of the Cuisinart coffee maker that it replaced. I want something more eye pleasing on the counter and I thought this would do it. OXO offers a 2 year warranty. I have a busy life, now I have to use my free time trying to replace this unit.

Defective - beware Mitch ·

I've had this coffee maker for about 9 months. It seemed fine to start but over time the basket has started to leak when the carafe is moved even many minutes after the brew has finished.. Most uses now there will be a steady drop of coffee dripping out, resulting in a big mess.

Brew basket design flaw Sabine ·

The coffee is wonderful with this coffee maker but the brew basket design is cheap and does not work. The auto shut off gets stuck so if you pull the carafe out early coffee pours all over your counter. For a very pricey coffee maker this is unacceptable. I would not purchase this again.
