After living in Asia (where meat is a condiment), I married a meat-and-potatoes-loving Midwest farmer. The ONLY way I learned to cook meat with any bit of success was by using this meat thermometer. Some people don't like it because it can't be washed in the dishwasher, but that's no trouble for me. It's quick. The case has a temperature guide for all different kinds of meats. One thing I didn't know at first, is that you should use tongs to pick up the hamburger or pork chop, and then insert the prong sideways into the meat 2 or 3 inches, instead of sticking the prong down into the meat in the fry pan.
I gave this thermometer only 3 stars but still wanted to recommend it for both its merit and fault. Merit: it Is good for what it is meant for, quick in telling temperature of a big chunk of meat, by "big" I mean that it has to be almost 3" either in longth or width. Fault: it is almost useless for anything else, because you are supposed to insert the whole almost 3" long grey area on the probe into the object that you want to take temperature for, anything that is smaller therefore does not allow inserting the whole length will not do. I took pains to find out these things because I have little confidence in digital thermometers and really wanted this thermometer to work. I put it into boiling water to test its accuracy the first thing after receiving it. But it reached 180f and refused to go to 210f, which is the right temperature. Then I read the manual and realized that it was accurately reading the average temperature of boiling water and the cooler air on top of the water. I would recommend this product to those who need an analogue thermometer only for big chunk of meat. I had to retuned it, for I usually cook smaller portions.

This product takes forever to read the temperature. Much better off with a battery operated thermometer
Wanting to ensure my meat & fish are cooked thoroughly, I purchased this & it iworks great! I have other temp probes but they do not perform as well as this one. I even bought one to put in my out of town friend’s Christmas box & she loves it too!

I have loved OXO for years. We just had one of the best smoked pulled pork with the aid o this OXO thermometer.
Never worked seemed to be stuck on 80 degrees

I needed a thermometer primarily for meat and any food needing an accurate temperature check for the food to be properly cooked, NOT over or under cooked!
