simplehuman® Touchless Sensor Soap/Sanitizer Pump in Brushed Stainless Steel

I bought 2 of these soap dispensers last year when I re-modeled 2 bathrooms. They eliminate the always messy soap dish, as well as the bar of partially-used soap to be shared among family and friends. I've bought several of them as gifts, which been well received. After having had them long enough to feel that I've tested them, I ordered a third for my home, to use in the kitchen. I didn't realize that there had been "upgrades". The new model is different in several ways, and for me, none of the changes is a definite improvement. Volume adjustments, which previously consisted of a “+” button and a “-” button on the top of the dispenser, no longer exist, per se. Instead. Symbology on the front of the new unit (and in the "manual", such as it is) seem to indicate that where you put your hand determines the volume of soap that will be dispensed. So far, this seems functionally erratic. I’ve been unable to get a consistent volume of soap from the new dispenser. The top of the unit is now just a solid piece of metal, When it's removed, a funnel-shaped insert is revealed, which is used when pouring soap into the dispenser. This necessitates pouring VERY slowly, else the smallish, round hole is blocked, and air has no way to escape the chamber as soap is going in, so it can quickly back up to the point of overflowing. Further, the clear back of the unit on the old model allowed monitoring of the fill level. With the new model, the only way you can see the level of soap is by looking through the fill hole. These changes combine to make filling the dispenser tedious. Finally, the new model has a proprietary, magnetic connector, instead of the previous standard mini-USB connector. This makes the unit fully immersible, which has its benefits. However, it’s yet another unique connector on the end of a USB cable. Most of us have more different cables than we need. Until an industry standard can be agreed upon for a magnetic USB connector, I’d forego this change. Overall, I'd recommend this product, but with some dissatisfaction, compared to the previous model. Ergonomically, this one is less satisfactory.
