The glass carafe design is slick. Filling - is easy you don't need to lift any lids as the top fill cover "drops" with a counter weight (it will auto close). Pouring - has a self opening cover, inside there are two channels for smooth pours. Glass carafe - means there is no plastic taste in the water. Filter - Uses natural plant material [coconut shells?] (obviously ground and turned to carbon) The water itself (depending your water supplier) reminds me of tasting like bottled Fiji water (PH 7.x~ water). On my first filter and it's tasting the same as the first batch of filtering. As of now I've probably filtered at least 5 gallons. Filter cost - Soma direct offers free shipping and discounted filters by mail. The only disadvantage I can think of is the lower gasket wearing down in 10+ years.
We have the larger Soma at home and love it. I bought this one for my studio. Sadly, the design is such that it doesn't poor well or efficiently, so when you tip it to get the last bit of water, the filter falls forward. The stream of water is also quite thin. Oh well, "it's better to look good then to work good."

I LOVE that the carafe where the water stays for more prolonged periods of time is made of glass instead of plastic like many others. The shape of it looks like lab/chemistry equipment but i kinda like that and it makes holding it super easy and comfortable. Cleaning the inside is also very easy because i can fit my whole hand in to scrub the surface with a sponge (although i do have slim hands). I dont think it would work for a family because it’s just not big enough to be efficient since the top reservoir where the filter is only holds about 2-3 cups of water. The carafe holds about more.
I love this filter. The water tastes so very good. I bought 3 of them! However the container of the smaller one broke so easily! It is plastic but it simply cracked. I hope to get a replacement as the results of the filetear are wonderful!
As this is a replacement- love the product - filter over the years improved...

Love it; but I recommend getting filters from another place; the filters for this are slow; water is perfect if you have the patience!
After many years of use and thousands of gallons of filtered water, we broke our first and only carafe. Thank you for sending the replacement! We love Soma and have given it as a gift to our kids and friends

I love the look of my glass carafe, and I think a new filter every two months is great. I do worry about its fragility...sometimes it is hard to grip.
