Why is ‘Original’ no longer original?

Lilly56 . 4 weeks ago

As many reviewers have noted, I don’t understand why the scent of Tide ‘original’ changed. My family used Tide all of my life and as an adult I have also used it (30 years). How can you change the scent and still call it ‘original?’ It doesn’t smell as good and now has me considering changing detergents for the first time in my life. When have a good product, why change it?

"Original"??? Scent

Carolyn25 . 2 months ago

Can you really change the scent and still call it "original"? The scent is different, the color is different, and the liquid is thinner. If the scent changed in 2019 it finally caught up here in NJ. I do not like the smell as my clothes are washing or the smell it leaves on my clothes and towels. I'm not sure I'll be able to suffer through the rest of the bottle. Boooo!! to Tide

Original Scent.

I wasn't a original tide user. I used tide with downy. One day a co-worker and I were working on a project and I noticed how fresh her clothes smelled! I asked her what type of detergent she uses which was tide original. I didn't remember tide smelling like that and I loved it! I did research and found the scent changed in 2019! I switched from tide with downy which smells wonderful to tide original just because I love the smell of it.

Original Tide color change

Why did original tide change from blue to green? I’m allergic to a lot of things. I never change detergents for that reason. How do I get the blue original tide?

Plastic bottle?

Esther Wanning . 3 months ago

I liked the sound of High Efficiency but when I saw the look I was done: Plastic bottle. Certainly, you know, recycling of such bottles is a joke. Boxes with powder make much more sense; you get more for the volume without the plastic. I see you have goals for sustainability, but they remain goals. Despite goals, you don't admit what is going into the wastewater now. No, no Tide for me.

Bad Smell

Buddagriff . 4 months ago

I have never been on this website, didn't know about it. I found it because I was doing a search trying to find out if there has been a change in the formula. Please know I have used Tide all of my adult life - Im 72. When I can't find Mountain Spring I use Original. Mountain Spring is not carried anymore by Publix. OMG, it's terrible. Smells like body odor to me! I thought it was just me until I read all of the reviews here. What were you thinking!! Go back!!

PLEASE bring back the true 'original' scent!

Cindy44 . 4 months ago

This formula is no longer the original scent. I've used Original Tide for over 25 years and loved it. Now unfortunately I will have to find a new product. The scent is so overpowering it makes me nauseous. Please bring back the true original scent!!

Smells terrible

The smell of tide now is absolutely disgusting. I never wash my clothes with anything else but the clothes come out smelling musty. I have to go rewash my clothes with something else.

New “original” scent is terrible

wlc123 . 5 months ago

I used Tide detergent exclusively for decades. I was pleased with how well it cleaned and the pleasing scent. The new “original” scent is a dealbreaker. It is way too strong and not pleasing to smell. It is ridiculous label this scent as original. I would not have purchased it if I realized I had changed it. Here’s an idea: leave the original as the actual original. Make other, new scents and label them as something else. Let supply and demand determine whether you continue to make this new awful scent. It is a shame to run off lifetime customers.

Best laundry detergent, but horrible new smell!

talia . 5 months ago

I have used this Tide or Tide Ultra for decades. Mostly Tide Ultra the last 10 or so. Their stain removing power is unparallelld. Never any need for stain removers- a few drops of this kills any and all stains. Sadly, though, the fragrance has changed. It's now a heavy feminine/floral, and is extremely strong, to the point where I won't use this by itself any more. I mix a little bit with unscented tide. It's especially gross to use by itself towels or anything that touches my skin directly. There's nothing worse than getting out of the shower or washing your face then using a towel that smells like that. PLEASE change it back!!! In addition, Tide Ultra has become very hard to find, and only comes in small bottles, though with the new smell, you'll never use it undiluted, anyway.

The store did great!!

Smells terrible.

KellyB . 6 months ago

Everyone complains about the horrible odor of this Tide and yet the company refuses to switch back. That doesn't make sense. It's like spitting in paying customers faces. Why did they change it in the first place? I switched to Kirkland. It doesn't make my laundry stink and it does a great job cleaning.

The fragrance is objectively overpowering. Even after washing clothes 3 times, the smell lingered in clothing and gave my family a headache.

The new smell is nauseating. Obviously the market research wasn’t accurate as so many people hate the new smell. So why won’t you change it back? What are you doing proctor and gamble? Why change something that was great as is and make it terrible? You lost a customer for good. Something is very wrong with your marketing research and quality depts.

Smell is Problematic

Shellie78 . 8 months ago

I thought I'd accidentally grabbed the wrong bottle of Tide. I've lived a life of horrible allergies so I've had to be selective in soaps and detergents for years. After using this new bottle of Tide, I was up all night with the sweet smell and had an allergic reaction. I wish I knew this was going to be changed before investing in the cost of a large liquid bottle and washing all my sheets and clothes in it. Why change a good thing?

Tide used to be a staple in our home

Bed Bath and Beyond Customer . 8 months ago

Grew up with Tide, served in the Air Force with Tide, moved across the country and Tide was always a scent that felt like home. It was a clean not overpowering fragrance that has been like a comfort I and then we relied on, but no more. Tide has changed, it’s not right. The first one I got home, I smelled it and returned it because I thought it was bad, then I just thought I was going nuts, now I see from other reviews it’s just changed. What a bummer, no longer with I be buying Tide.

Great smell and cleaning power

Kevin23 . 8 months ago

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] All of my life, I have purchased the cheapest brand detergents. Until recently, I tried Tide. WOW! What a product. Worth every penny. The scent alone is rich and fresh. And the smell stays with clothes days after the wash. Cleaning power is amazing as well. In the long run, it's not much more expensive than the cheap brand I was buying---if you factor that you use a lot less of this product (1 bar on the cap), saves you time in re-washing or manual scrubbing, and the fact that this will make your clothes last longer.

Perfumed to H

Used original Tide for 20 years, my mother used it, but no more. Had to re-wash my clothes, took it back to the store. can't say enough how bad this smell hit me. I washed sheets and pillow cases but my eyes itched after laying on my pillow. Yes up in the night to change bedding. And heck no will not buy Tide free after this...if that's what your Tide marketing department is planning!!

Not Original Scent

NBX633 . 9 months ago

This is not the original scent, they’ve changed it. The new one is so overpowering it is disgusting. I’ve literally used Tide my entire life, it was the definition of what clean laundry smelled like for me. Please bring back the actual original scent!!!!

THE SMELL!!

Kelly12 . 10 months ago

I have used Tide for over 25 years and used no other detergent. But I can’t get over the new scent - it is overwhelmingly perfume-y and sticks with you all day. It seriously gives me headaches. And for the company to suggest buying Tide with a different scent?! I don’t want my clean laundry to smell like anything other than clean laundry! They make candles that smell like fresh laundry, how hard can it be for a detergent company to make a fresh clean smelling detergent?! This was my last bottle of Tide.
